Sleek Badge

Photograph their card. It is already in your contacts.

Your Sleek Badge card hands over your details in one tap. The scanner takes theirs the same way — point your camera at the paper card they just gave you and it lands in your phone, spelled correctly, before they have finished their sentence.

RM189 paid once — 20 scans included, and they never expire

  • Name, job title, company, numbers, email, website and address
  • Reads Chinese and Japanese cards without mangling the name
  • Shows you what it read, so you can fix anything before saving
  • 20 scans with every card — another fifty is RM29
  • Sits on your home screen; no app store, nothing to update
  • The photograph is never stored, anywhere

Every one of these comes with it

The pocket at the end of the day

Everyone knows this one. Day three of the show, a jacket pocket full of paper, and a promise to yourself that you will type them all in on the flight home. You will not. Nobody does. The good ones get typed in, the rest go in a drawer, and the person you most wanted to follow up with is somewhere in that drawer.

The scanner is the other half of the exchange. You tap your card and they have you. You photograph theirs and you have them. Nothing waits until the flight home, because the thirty seconds it takes happens while you are still standing in front of them.

Names it does not get wrong

This matters more here than it does anywhere else. A card from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Taipei or Tokyo often carries two names — the one in its own script and the Latin one its owner chose for themselves. Most scanners pick one and overwrite the other.

This one keeps what was printed. If a card shows both, you get both. If it shows only Chinese, you get our reading and a note saying it is ours — because a confident wrong name is worse than an obviously uncertain one. The wrong one is the one that ends up in an email greeting.

It also notices when the photograph is not a business card at all. People photograph receipts.

What it costs

Nothing on its own — it is not sold separately. Every paid Sleek Badge profile comes with 20 scans that do not expire, and another fifty is RM29 if you ever get through them. An engraved card is RM189 paid once, with the profile, the scanner and the first year of hosting included. After that, hosting is RM30 a year.

Just want the profile and the scanner without a physical card? Pro is RM59 once. It is priced separately from a card, so pick the one you actually want. See the wooden cards.

Questions

How does the scanner work?

Photograph the card. The scanner reads the name, job title, company, phone numbers, email, website and address, shows you what it found so you can correct anything, and saves it to your phone's contacts in one tap. There is nothing to install — it opens from your own dashboard and can sit on your home screen like an app.

What does it do with Chinese or Japanese cards?

It keeps the Latin name exactly as printed and never overwrites it. When a card shows both a Chinese name and an English one, you get both. When it shows only Chinese, we romanise it and tell you that the Latin form is our reading rather than theirs — because a confident wrong name is worse than no name, since it is the one that gets used.

Is the photograph of the card stored anywhere?

No. The image is held in memory while it is read and dropped the moment that finishes. It is never written to disk or to a database. The person on that card never agreed to anything of ours, so the only thing we keep is that a scan happened and what it cost.

How many scans do I get?

Twenty with every paid profile, and they do not expire. Another fifty is RM29 whenever you run out. Most people use a handful a month and a burst after an event.

Do I need the scanner if I have an NFC card?

They solve opposite halves of the same moment. Your card hands your details to them. The scanner takes theirs. An exchange only works in one direction if you are still typing the other one in by hand.

Does it work on any phone?

Yes — it uses the camera through your browser, so there is no app store and nothing to update. Add it to your home screen and it opens like any other app, which matters at an event when you are standing up with a drink in one hand.

Have it in hand before your next event.
